The name Parenica comes from the Slovak word meaning steamed cheese. A typical, traditional Slovak cheese is maked from goat milk. Parenica is a semi-firm, non-ripening, semi-fat, steamed and usually smoked cheese. Parenica is dipped for 2-3 hours into a cold jelly which gives it a special taste. This cheese is cream and yellow in colour, which is darkened by steaming. The cheese is produced in strips, which are woven into snail-like spirals. The non-smoked version is also produced, which is white in colour.
