Gudbrandsdalsost is a Brunost cheese i.e. a variety of brown Norwegian cheese. Gudbrandsdalsost simply means a cheese from Gudbrandsdalen, which is name of valley and district in Norwegian county of Oppland. Made from cow's and goat's milk and cream, it offers a strong, sweet and smoother taste than similar Geitost brown cheese. Its characteristic caramel taste is obtained by heating milk sugar into caramel. This cheese can be served as open sandwich toppings or on bread and malt loaf. When it gets ready to consume, it is packed in a suitable sized blocks.
